Day 32 - June 30 - Steinbach to South Junction - 100 km - (T=2647 km)

Hier nous avons reçu un appel de Connie Graham pour nous annoncer le décès de Dr Michael Graham, plus tôt dans la journée. Merci Connie pour l'appel et merci pour tout le temps passé et les efforts que vous avez utilisé ces derniers neuf mois rendre la vie de votre beau-frère, Michael, bien plus agréable. Charles a commencé à travailler comme étudiant en pharmacie, en 1979, et depuis est devenu un grand ami de Michael. Nous allons le manquer et aujourd'hui nous avons dédié notre journée à sa mémoire.

Hier nous avons fait des recherches sur internet et avons réalisé qu'il n'y aurait pas de services sur notre route, avant 100 km à South Junction, où il y a une station d'essence Co-op. Par la suite, les seules bonnes options pour le camping ou hotel, serait à Warroad, Minnesota, après 140 km. Donc, nous pensions passer notre première nuit aux États-Unis. Cela nous désappointait parce que demain c'est la fête du Canada.  Nous avons été bien surpris, lorsqu'on a approché l'enseigne pour la station d'essence Co-op de South Junction, de voir qu'ils ont aussi un restaurant et des chambres à louer. Il était midi, alors nous avons diné et décider de rester au Canada une soirée de plus. Ils n'ont que 4 chambres et nous avons été chanceux d'en avoir une. Cette chambre est même plus belle qu'a certain hôtels où nous sommes restés. Le seul désavantage est qu'ils n'ont pas de réception pour le téléphone cellulaire, mais au moins il y a le Wi-Fi.

Nous étions sur la route tôt, partant juste après 5h AM, pensant faire 140 km de route avec une longue montée progressive et du vent faible de face. Donc, notre corps était content d'arrêter après 100 km. Nous avons même dormi pendant 90 minutes en après-midi.

Yesterday we got a phone call from Connie Graham to let us know that Dr Michael Graham had passed away earlier in the day. Thank you Connie for the call and thank you for being so generous with your time and effort for caring for your brother-in-law in such a great way during the last nine months. Charles started working as a pharmacy student in 1979, and got to be a real good friend to Michael since. We will both miss him and today we dedicated our journey for him. 

Last night we searched on the internet and realized that our route today would not have any service before 100 km, in South Junction, where there would be a Co-op gas station. Then the only good option for camping or hotel would be in Warroad, Minnesota, 140 km away. So we thought that we would spend our first night in the USA today. And tomorrow, being Canada Day this disappointed us. So, to our surprise, when we saw the Co-op sign, it said that the place also has a restaurant and rooms for rent. It was noon, so we had lunch and decided to stay in Canada. They only have 4 rooms and we were lucky to get one. This room is even nicer than some hotels we stayed in. The only bad thing is there is no cell phone service, but we have Wi-Fi. 

We were on the road early, leaving just after 5h AM, thinking we would ride 140 km with a long progressive uphill and light head wind. So our body was glad to stop after 100 km. We even took a 90 minutes nap in the afternoon.
