La prochaine grosse ville est Medicine Hat, située à 165 km de Lethbridge. Il n'y a pas beaucoup de villages qui ont des motels ou du camping en chemin. Mais il y en a un à Taber, qui n'est que 50 km de Lethbridge. Il resterait 115 km pour se rendre à Medicine Hat. L'autre choix est de se rendre à Bow Island, à 105 km et avoir une petite journée de 60 km le lendemain. Mais ce dernier village n'a qu'un hôtel de moindre qualité et sans internet. Alors on a décidé de se rendre à Taber.
Autre décision: l'heure du départ. Nous étions dans un hôtel avec piscine et bain chaud et on pouvait y rester jusqu'a 11h et notre 50 km allait prendre entre 3 à 4 heures dépendant du vent. On a donc vérifié la météo et le vent était en notre faveur jusqu'a 10h. Alors on est parti à 6:30h avec une température de 11C. Le vent à été de dos pour 20 km pour ensuite devenir de côté, mais pas trop fort. On est arrivé à Taber vers 9:30h, la température était 13C et nuageux.
Taber est une assez grosse ville et assez récente, d'après les buildings. Il était tôt pour arriver à un hôtel, alors on est allé déjeuner au McDonald's. Rendu à l'intérieur, la pluie a débuté faiblement. On s'est rendu à l'hôtel et une heure plus tard, en regardant la météo, le vent avait augmenté à 34 km/h, et du nord, ce qui n'aurait pas été bon pour nous. Il a mouillé jusqu'a 3h PM. Alors c'est presque une journée de repos; peu de km et terminé à 10h.
On est passé près de champs de patates et d'une manufacture de McCain. Le 4e plus gros employeur agricole-nourriture (agro-food) de la région, avec 275 employés. Nous ne réalisions pas que la région est reconnue pour la production de patates. Les patates de l'Alberta sont parmis les meilleures au monde et il y a 197 variétés cultivées dans la région.

Decisions! Decisions!

Another decision: when to leave. We were in a hotel with a pool and a hot tub, and could stay until 11h, and it should not take more than 3 or 4 hours to ride this 50 km, depending on the wind. We based our decision on the weather forecast. The wind was going to be in our favour until 10h AM. So we left at 6:30h with a temperature of 11C. The wind has been in our back for 20 km, then it was sideways, but not too strong. We arrived in Taber around 9:30h, with 13C and cloudy skies.
Taber is quite big and fairly recent, according to the look of the buildings. Il was too early to check in a hotel, so we stopped at McDonald's for breakfast. While inside, it started to rain lightly. We went to the hotel and one hour later, while checking the forecast, the wind was now 34 km/h and from North, which would not have been good for cycling. The rain only stopped near 3h PM. This is almost a day off; few km and done by 10h AM.
We rode near potato fields and a McCain manufacture. They are the 4th largest agro-food employer in the region, with 275 employees. We did not realize that the region is recognized for potato production. Alberta's potato-growing regions are among the best in the world and there are 197 varieties grown in the region.
