Day 15 - June 13 - Cranbrook to Fernie - 98 km - (T=1009 km)

Quand on s'est levé à 6h la température était 2C dehors. Malgré tout on voulait partir de cet hotel parce qu'on a eu des problèmes avec la toilette. A chaque 2 fois qu'on la faisait couler, il fallait utiliser le plunger (débouche toilette). Si on ouvrait robinet l'eau recollait partout tellement la pression était forte. Et en plus il a fallu réveiller le propriétaire pour avoir nos vélos qu'il n'a pas voulu qu'on entre dans la chambre.

Avec tout ça on est parti à 7:30h et une température de 5C. Il a fallu attendre vers 9h pour avoir 10C et 10h pour 15C. Mais il faisait soleil et on s'était bien habillé, avec pantalons longs et plus de chandails et une tuque, alors on n'a pas eu froid! Quand on est arrêté à Elko pour diner à une table de picnic, la température a augmenté à 31C (au soleil et abri du vent). Ensuite c'est resté vers 25C.

On venait de faire quelques assez grosses montées avant de diner, et a cet arrêt on a rencontré Rick qui nous a rassuré que le reste du trajet jusqu'à Fernie serait plus facile. Le dernier 30 km était incroyable en paysages avec la vue des montagnes et du centre de ski Fernie...Charles aurait été capable de prendre 1000 photos.

Après 89 km de route, et à 1 km de l'entrée du Centre de ski Fernie, et à 1000 mètres d'altitude...cela faisait 1000 km qu'on était parti de Stanley Park. Un point qu'on va se souvenir!

Il annonce encore froid cette nuit, donc un autre hôtel et marche au magasin.

Finalement rendu à une ville dont le nom commence par une autre lettre que 'C'. On est arrêté, depuis le jour 10, à Christina Lake, Castlegar, Crawford Bay, Creston et Cranbrook. Marthe commençait à être mêlé!

Charles était déjà venu à Fernie plusieurs fois en hiver pour skier, Marthe n'y était jamais venu. C'est une autre belle ville de la région. Charles l'aime autant en été qu'en hiver.

Demain on va entrer en Alberta!

Fernie ski resort trails -vue from downtown

We woke up at 6h this morning with an outside temperature of 2C. But still we wanted to leave our hotel. We had some problems with the toilet. After each 2 times of flushing, we had to use a plunger! Also when you would open a faucet the water had so much pressure, it was flying everywhere. We also had to wake up the owner to get our bikes, since he did not want us to bring them into the room. 

Finally we left at 7:30h, and a temperature of 5C. It took until 9h to get 10C and till 10h to get 15C. But it was sunny and we dressed up properly, with long pants and more sweaters, so we did not freeze. When we stopped at a picnic table in Elko to eat lunch, in the sun and away from the wind, the temperature reached 31C, but that did not last, but it remained around 25C afterward. 

We had just finished a few ascent that were quite challenging before lunch, and when stopped, we talked to Rick, who assured us that the worst was done, it would be easier up to Fernie. The last 30 km had so much nice views, with the mountains and the ski hill nearby that Charles could have taken 1000 pictures..but did not!!!

After riding 89 km, we were at 1 km from the road to Fernie Ski Resort, and at 1000 meter altitude....and this was our 1000 km riding since leaving Stanley Park. A point we will remember!

It is forecasting another cold night, so another hotel and a walk to the store. 

Finally we are stopping at a town which name is not starting with the lettre 'C'. From day 10, we stopped at Christina Lake, Castlegar, Crawford Bay, Creston and Cranbrook. Marthe was getting confused!

Charles had been in Fernie a few times in the winter to ski, but never in the summer and he liked it as much. This is another nice city in the region!

Tomorrow we will get to Alberta.
