Today we left Marquette at 6:30h and since we had finished the day with a big descent the day before, we knew we would be climbing. In total we had 3 big climbs today and don't know if the temperature was that much warmer or if it is because there was no wind, but we were sweating heavy today.
After 72 km, in Munising, we saw our first store and restaurant of the day. We were happy to stop for lunch. We had planned to ride 100 km today, but talking with the waitress, we found out that the place where we had planned to stop, had been closed for 3 years. This would mean having to ride another 55 km instead of 25 km. It was only 11:30h, and it was getting pretty warm, and if you get in too late in a hotel it might be full, mainly on a Saturday, so the decision was made to make it a short day. We found a nice hotel 6 km further, but 80 meters higher (uphill). So we did not want to go back to town for supper, but got some sandwiches at the gas station across the street.
The region is known as 'Pictured Rocks'. It is brilliantly coloured cliffs and sea caves, along the coast. There are boats rides you can take to see it. It was tempting, but it was too hot so we stayed in the hotel and relaxed. It was 92F (33C) at suppertime.
