Day 42 - July 10 - Kenton to Marquette - 124 km (T=3566km)

Après une autre soirée dans un motel à $40 la nuit, ce matin nous nous sommes levé tôt et avons décidé qu'on allait se rendre à Marquette et se gâter avec un meilleur motel, où on peut faire du lavage et avoir l'air climatisé.  Nous savions que la journée allait commencer par une montée sur le premier 60 km, mais ensuite ce serait plus facile.  Et bien tout a bien été, après 30 km nous sommes arrivé à un très beau 'steakhouse' qui ouvrait à 8h pour le déjeuner et il était justement 8h. Plus on s'approche de Marquette, peut-être parce que c'est une grosse ville, il y a beaucoup de magasins où arrêter.  Et contrairement aux derniers deux jours, il y avait assez de choix, qu'on n'avait pas besoin d'arrêter à tout ceux qui étaient ouvert.  En plus, le paysage était bien plus intéressant, en passant par des beaux lacs bleus ou rivières.   Nous commençons a sortir de la forêt!

Nous sommes arrivé à la chambre vers 3h PM et par 4:30h PM nous avions déjà fait un lavage et avions tous deux pris notre douche. Les avantages d'un bon motel et en plus il y a un bon restaurant juste à côté.  Donc, une belle journée sur la route en vélo, et une belle soirée relaxante.  C'est des journées comme cela qui vous font vraiment apprécier les tours en vélo.  Nous serons de retour au Canada dans peu de jours puisque nous ne sommes qu'à 280 km de la frontière.  Il y aura moins de choix de magasins et hotels sur ce bout de chemin qu'aujourd'hui, mais tout devrait bien se passer.

After another night in a $40 a night hotel, this morning we got up early and decided that we would make it all the way to Marquette, and spoil ourselves with a nicer hotel, where we could do laundry and sleep with air conditioning.  We knew that the day would start with climbing for the first 60 km, but that after it would get better.  Well, it started very well; after 30 km, we came across a very nice steakhouse that opened at 8h AM for breakfast, and it was exactly 8h.  We were there for a whole hour, and we were treated to a very nice breakfast.  The closer we got to Marquette, maybe because it is a big town, we came across a lot of stores.  For a change, we were not stopping at every opened store, like we did in the last two days.  And also, the view was getting a lot better, with some nice blue rivers and blue lakes.  We were getting out of the woods!

We were at the hotel by 3h PM, and by 4:30h, laundry is done and we have both showered.  The advantages of a nicer hotel.  Also there is a very nice restaurant next door.  It has been an awesome day on the road and we will also have a very nice relaxing evening.  It's days like this that really makes you enjoy bike touring.  Our days in the Unites States are close to coming to the end.  We are about 280 km from the border.  It's another area that will not offer too many stores and hotels but we will be doing ok.
