Day 85 - Aug 22 - CAR - St John's to Argentia

C'était un bon changement, hier soir, d'avoir une soirée où nous n'avions pas à planifier notre trajet de la prochaine journée et de ne pas se coucher en pensant qu'il faudrait se lever tôt.

Nous avons pris un déjeuner à une heure raisonnable.  Puis, nous avons conduit jusqu'au terminal du traversier de Argentia, où notre fils Philippe et ses amis, arrivaient pour compléter leur tour de vélo à travers le Canada.  Nous les avons rencontré à leur sortie du traversier, avons pris des photos et leur avons offert des boissons froides.  Puis nous les avons invités à venir diner avec nous à Whitbourne, 46 km plus loin.

En attendant nous avons visité Placentia et le lieu historique national de Castle Hill.  Ce tour nous a fait marcher pendant près d'une heure et nous a appris un peu d'histoire.  Placentia est une très belle ville et nous sommes content d'y être passé.

Au diner, nous avons rencontré les cinq cyclistes et leur ami Patrick, de St John's, qui venait à leur rencontre lui aussi.  Nous avons partagé de belles histoires et avons bien ri.  C'était dommage que nous devions retourner à Argentia pour prendre le traversier à notre tour, sinon nous aurions parlé bien plus longtemps.

Ce soir nous avons une traversée de 16 heures jusqu'à North Sydney et devrions être chez nous pour souper demain, dimanche.  Nous allons voir notre autre fils, Patrick, avant qu'il parte pour son prochain semestre d'université à Ottawa.

Notre amie, Farha, avec qui nous avons fait plusieurs jours de vélo, sera à North Sydney, d'où elle prendra le traversier du soir pour terminer son voyage à travers le pays.  Nous allons arrêter pour la rencontrer et partager des histoires, avant de conduire jusqu'à la maison.

Nous allons chacun faire une autre entrée sur le blog pour y inscrire nos réflexions de cette belle aventure.

C'était bien agréable de partager cette expérience avec tous et chacun!

 fun stories with Farha!

It was fun last night,  to have a night where you did not have to plan for your next day and did not have to think that you had to get up early.

We had a good breakfast at a more reasonable time.  We then drove to Argentia, at the ferry terminal, where our son Philippe and his friends were arriving to complete their cross-Canada bike tour.  We saw them as they were getting out of the ferry, took some pictures and offered them some nice cold drinks.  Then we invited them to have lunch with us in Whitbourne, 46 km away.

In the meantime, we visited Placentia and Castle Hill national historic site.  It involved a nice one hour walk and we learned some history.  Placentia is a very beautiful town and we are glad we stopped there.

Then, at lunch, we met the five cyclists and their friend, Patrick, from St John's, who was also coming to meet them.  We shared some nice stories and had lots of laugh.  Too bad we had to leave to get back to Argentia for our turn to take the ferry, or we would have talked much longer.

Tonight we have a 16 hour ferry ride to North Sydney and should be home at suppertime on Sunday, (tomorrow).  We will get to see our other son, Patrick, before he leaves for his next university term in Ottawa.

Our friend, Farha, who cycled with us for a few days, will be in North Sydney, waiting to take the evening ferry to complete her cross-Canada tour.  We will be meeting with her to share stories before driving home.

We will post once more to each write our reflexions on this beautiful journey.
