May 29 - supper with friends

Aujourd'hui nous avons commencé la journée en se rendant de nouveau au magasin de vélo pour faire quelques ajustements, puis magasiner pour de la nourriture, donc on a fait environ 20 km. On s'est reposé en après-midi pour ensuite se rendre chez des amis cyclistes, connus à travers Warm Showers, Crispin, Natasja et Benjamin Wye. Nous les avons hébergés chez nous, la fin de semaine où on fêtait notre 25e anniversaire de marriage en septembre 2013, lors de leur voyage à travers le Canada, en famille avec un tandem. On avait hâte de les revoir et on a apprécié leur invitation pour souper.

Qui dit que Vancouver est une grande ville! On s'est mêlé dans notre chemin pour se rendre à leur maison et pouvez vous croire que Crispin qui ne nous avait pas vu depuis deux ans, est passé par le même chemin que nous, en revenant de l'ouvrage, en vélo, et nous a reconnu. De plus qu'il croyait que nous étions en tandem! Il nous a accompagné à leur maison.

Là nous avons été accueilli à bras ouverts, par son femme, Natasja. Leur fils Benjamin avait 10 ans lors de leur passage chez nous. Maintenant, à 12 ans, il a grandi et est presque aussi grand que Marthe. Nous avons eu des belles conversations et de bons conseils pour notre voyage.... et surtout un excellent repas, accompagné d'une bouteille de vin (première de notre voyage). Et le tout terminé par un très bon dessert. Merci à la famille Wye, pour une belle soirée. Crispin nous a même accompagné, jusqu'a l'endroit où on s'était trompé de chemin. Donc le retour à l'hotel a été bien plus rapide.

Today we started our day by going again to the bike store, to make the final tune ups. Then grocery shopping, for around 20 km biking. After a break in the afternoon, we biked to the house of cyclist friends, Crispin, Natasja and Benjamin Wye.  We had hosted them, through Warm Showers, on the weekend of our 25th wedding anniversary celebration, in September 2013, while they were travelling across Canada as a family on a tandem. We were anxious to meet them again and were very happy for their invitation for supper.

Who would say that Vancouver is a big city. We got mixed up on our way to their house, and would you believe that Crispin, who had not seen us in two years, happened to be biking by us, on his way back from work, and he recognized us even if  he thought we were riding the tandem. The rest of our ride to their place was made less easier.

At the house, his wife Natasja welcomed us with opened arms. Their son, Benjamin, was 10 when he was at our home, and now at 12 years old, he is much taller and almost as tall as Marthe. We had great conversations and also good tips for our adventure. And the best part, was the excellent meal and wine (our first bottle on this trip). This was all topped up by a wonderful desert. Thank you to the Wye family for a great evening. Crispin even accompanied us to the part where we mixed up our route, so our ride home was much faster.
